ध्यायेदाजानुबाहुं धृतशरधनुषं बद्धपद्मासनस्थं पीतं वासो वसानं नवकमलदलस्पर्थिनेत्रं प्रसन्नम् । वामाङ्कारूढसीतामुखकमलमिलल्लोचनं नीरदाभं नानालङ्कारदीप्तं दधतमुुरुजटामण्डलं रामचन्द्रम् ॥
Dhyāyed-ājānu-bāhuṁ dhṛta-śara-dhanuṣaṁ baddha-padmāsanasthaṁ Pītaṁ vāso vasānaṁ nava-kamala-dala-spardhi-netraṁ prasannam | Vāmāṅkārūḍha-sītā-mukha-kamala-milal-locanaṁ nīradābhaṁ Nānālaṅkāra-dīptaṁ dadhatam-uru-jaṭā-maṇḍalaṁ rāmacandram ||
Let us meditate on Lord Ramachandra, whose long arms reach down to His knees, who holds the divine bow and arrows seated in the lotus posture (Padmasana), adorned in golden yellow garments, with gracious eyes that rival fresh lotus petals, whose loving gaze meets the lotus face of Mother Sita seated on His left lap, whose divine complexion glows like a fresh monsoon cloud, adorned with celestial ornaments and bearing ascetic matted locks.
चरितं रघुनाथस्य शतकोटिप्रविस्तरम् । एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम् ॥ १ ॥
Caritaṁ raghunāthasya śata-koṭi-pravistaram | Ekaikam-akṣaraṁ puṁsāṁ mahā-pātaka-nāśanam || 1 ||

रामरक्षां पठेत्प्राज्ञः पापघ्नीं सर्वकामदाम् । शिरो मे राघवः पातु भालं दशरथात्मजः ॥ ४ ॥
Rāmarakṣāṁ paṭhet-prājñaḥ pāpaghnīṁ sarva-kāmadām | Śiro me rāghavaḥ pātu bhālaṁ daśarathātmajaḥ || 4 ||
The wise aspirant should recite the sacred Ram Raksha Stotra, which extinguishes all sins and fulfills every righteous desire. May Raghava protect my head, and may the son of King Dasharatha protect my forehead.
कौसल्येयो दृशौ पातु विश्वामित्रप्रियः श्रुती । घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सलः ॥ ५ ॥
Kausalyeyo dṛśau pātu viśvāmitra-priyaḥ śrutī | Ghrāṇaṁ pātu makha-trātā mukhaṁ saumitri-vatsalaḥ || 5 ||
May the son of Kausalya protect my eyes; may the beloved disciple of Sage Vishwamitra guard my ears; may the defender of the sacred Vedic yajnas protect my nose, and may the affectionate brother of Lakshmana protect my mouth.
जिह्वां विद्यानिधिः पातु कण्ठं भरतवन्दितः । स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुधः पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुकः ॥ ६ ॥
Jihvāṁ vidyā-nidhiḥ pātu kaṇṭhaṁ bharata-vanditaḥ | Skandhau divyāyudhaḥ pātu bhujau bhagneśa-kārmukaḥ || 6 ||
May the ocean of all divine wisdom protect my tongue; may He who is revered by Bharata protect my throat; may the bearer of celestial weapons protect my shoulders, and may the breaker of Lord Shiva's mighty bow guard my arms.
करौ सीतापतिः पातु हृदयं जामदग्न्यजित् । मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रयः ॥ ७ ॥
Karau sītā-patiḥ pātu hṛdayaṁ jāmadagnya-jit | Madhyaṁ pātu khara-dhvaṁsī nābhiṁ jāmbavad-āśrayaḥ || 7 ||
May the beloved consort of Sita protect my hands; may the vanquisher of Parashurama guard my heart; may the slayer of the demon Khara protect my torso, and may the divine refuge of Jambavan protect my navel.
सुग्रीवेशः कटी पातु सक्थिनी हनुमत्प्रभुः । ऊरू रघूत्तमः पातु रक्षःकुलविनाशकृत् ॥ ८ ॥
Sugrīveśaḥ kaṭī pātu sakthinī hanumat-prabhuḥ | Ūrū raghūttamaḥ pātu rakṣaḥ-kula-vināśa-kṛt || 8 ||
May the sovereign Lord of Sugriva protect my waist; may the beloved master of Hanuman protect my hips; and may the supreme jewel of the Raghu dynasty, the destroyer of the demon clan, protect my thighs.
जानुनी सेतुकृत्पातु जङ्घे दशमुखान्तकः । पादौ विभीषणश्रीदः पातु रामोऽखिलं वपुः ॥ ९ ॥
Jānunī setu-kṛt-pātu jaṅghe daśa-mukhāntakaḥ | Pādau vibhīṣaṇa-śrīdaḥ pātu rāmo'khilaṁ vapuḥ || 9 ||
May the builder of the ocean bridge protect my knees; may the slayer of the ten-headed Ravana protect my calves; may He who bestowed divine royalty upon Vibhishana protect my feet; and may Lord Rama protect my entire physical being.
एतां रामबलोपेतां रक्षां यः सुकृती पठेत् । स चिरायुः सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत् ॥ १० ॥
Etāṁ rāma-balopetāṁ rakṣāṁ yaḥ sukṛtī paṭhet | Sa cirāyuḥ sukhī putrī vijayī vinayī bhavet || 10 ||
Whosoever virtuous seeker recites this protective hymn infused with the sovereign strength of Lord Rama is blessed with long life, continuous happiness, noble progeny, triumphant victory in righteous endeavors, and noble humility.
पातालभूतलव्योमचारिणश्छद्मचारिणः । न द्रष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभिः ॥ ११ ॥
Pātāla-bhūtala-vyoma-cāriṇaś-chadma-cāriṇaḥ | Na draṣṭum-api śaktās-te rakṣitaṁ rāma-nāmabhiḥ || 11 ||
Neither demonic beings dwelling in subterranean realms, on earth, in the atmosphere, nor evil spirits moving about in deceptive disguises are able even to cast their gaze upon one shielded by the holy names of Lord Rama.
रामेति रामभद्रेति रामचन्द्रेति वा स्मरन् । नरो न लिप्यते पापैर्भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति ॥ १२ ॥
Rāmeti rāmabhadreti rāmacandreti vā smaran | Naro na lipyate pāpair-bhuktiṁ muktiṁ ca vindati || 12 ||
A person who devoutly remembers the Lord through the names 'Rama', 'Ramabhadra', and 'Ramachandra' remains untainted by worldly sins, enjoying righteous worldly fulfillment (Bhukti) and attaining supreme spiritual liberation (Mukti).
इमं कल्पितमेतस्य रक्षां यः सुकृती पठेत् । स लभेत्परमां सिद्धिं रामचन्द्रप्रसादतः ॥ १३ ॥
Imaṁ kalpitam-etasya rakṣāṁ yaḥ sukṛtī paṭhet | Sa labhet-paramāṁ siddhiṁ rāmacandra-prasādataḥ || 13 ||
Whoever virtuous person recites this divine protection composed by Sage Budha Kaushika attains the supreme spiritual accomplishment through the grace of Lord Ramachandra.
आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् । लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥ १४ ॥
Āpadām-apahartāraṁ dātāraṁ sarva-sampadām | Lokābhirāmaṁ śrī-rāmaṁ bhūyo bhūyo namāmy-aham || 14 ||
I bow again and again to Lord Sri Rama, the remover of all calamities, the giver of all treasures and prosperity, and the delight of all the worlds.
भर्जनं भवबीजानामर्जनं सुखसम्पदाम् । तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम् ॥ १५ ॥
Bharjanaṁ bhava-bījānām-arjanaṁ sukha-sampadām | Tarjanaṁ yama-dūtānāṁ rāma-rāmeti garjanam || 15 ||
The thunderous chant of 'Rama, Rama' roasts the seeds of rebirth and worldly entrapment, gathers all joy and prosperity, and drives away the messengers of death.
रामो राजमणिः सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नमः । रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोऽस्म्यहं रामे चित्तलयः सदा भवतु मे भो राम मामुद्धर ॥ १६ ॥
Rāmo rāja-maṇiḥ sadā vijayate rāmaṁ rameśaṁ bhaje Rāmeṇābhihatā niśācara-camū rāmāya tasmai namaḥ | Rāmān-nāsti parāyaṇaṁ parataraṁ rāmasya dāso'smy-ahaṁ Rāme citta-layaḥ sadā bhavatu me bho rāma mām-uddhara || 16 ||
May Rama, the crest-jewel of kings, be ever victorious! I worship Rama, the Lord of Ramaa. By Rama the demonic legions were destroyed; salutations to that Rama! There is no greater sanctuary than Rama; I am the servant of Rama. May my mind ever absorb in Rama. O Rama, deliver me!
राम रामेति रामेति रमे रामे मनोरमे । सहस्रनाम तत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने ॥ १७ ॥
Rāma rāmeti rāmeti rame rāme manorame | Sahasra-nāma tat-tulyaṁ rāma-nāma varānane || 17 ||
Lord Shiva said to Parvati: 'O fair-faced one! Chanting Rama, Rama, Rama, I ever rejoice in that enchanting name. A single recitation of Sri Rama's name is equal to the thousand holy names of Lord Vishnu!'
वैदेहीसहितं सुरद्रुमतले हैमे महामण्डपे मध्येपुष्पकमासने मणिमये वीरासने सुस्थितम् । अग्रे वाचयति प्रभञ्जनसुते तत्त्वं मुनिभ्यः परं व्याख्यातं भरतादिभिः परिवृतं रामं भजे श्यामलम् ॥ १८ ॥
Vaidehī-sahitaṁ sura-druma-tale haime mahā-maṇḍape Madhye-puṣpakam-āsane maṇi-maye vīrāsane susthitam | Agre vācayati prabhañjana-sute tattvaṁ munibhyaḥ paraṁ Vyākhyātaṁ bharatādibhiḥ parivṛtaṁ rāmaṁ bhaje śyāmalam || 18 ||
Under the wish-fulfilling Kalpavriksha tree in a golden hall, seated upon a jeweled throne in the Pushpaka aerial car with Sita Devi, while Hanuman expounds the supreme Truth to sages, surrounded by Bharata and His brothers, I adore the dark-complexioned Rama.
अग्रे वामकरेण कार्मुकवरं बद्ध्वा शरं दक्षिणे तूणीरेण समन्वितेन दधतं वीरासने संस्थितम् । रत्नोज्ज्वलकुण्डलं रुचिरसत्पीताम्बरं सस्मितं वन्दे राममनन्यभक्तसुखदं वीरासनस्थं प्रभुम् ॥ १९ ॥
Agre vāma-kareṇa kārmuka-varaṁ baddhvā śaraṁ dakṣiṇe Tūṇīreṇa samanvitena dadhataṁ vīrāsane saṁsthitam | Ratnojjvala-kuṇḍalaṁ rucira-sat-pītāmbaraṁ sasmitam Vande rāmam-ananya-bhakta-sukhadaṁ vīrāsana-sthaṁ prabhum || 19 ||
Holding the great bow in His left hand and the arrow in His right, quiver bound at His back, seated in Virasana posture, adorned with sparkling gem earrings and luminous yellow silks, smiling and blessing sincere devotees, I bow to Lord Rama.
सन्नद्धः कवची खड्गी चापबाणधरो युवा । गच्छन् ममाग्रतो नित्यं रामः पातु सलक्ष्मणः ॥ २० ॥
Sannaddhaḥ kavacī khaḍgī cāpa-bāṇa-dharo yuvā | Gacchan mamāgrato nityaṁ rāmaḥ pātu sa-lakṣmaṇaḥ || 20 ||
Fully armored, bearing sword, bow, and arrows, ever youthful and vigilant, may Lord Rama together with Lakshmana always march ahead of me and protect me.
अच्युतः कल्पवृक्षश्च सद्धर्मप्रतिपालकः । सर्वलोकैकशरण्यो रामो जयतु राघवः ॥ २१ ॥
Acyutaḥ kalpa-vṛkṣaś-ca sad-dharma-pratipālakaḥ | Sarva-lokaika-śaraṇyo rāmo jayatu rāghavaḥ || 21 ||
Infallible, a wish-fulfilling Kalpavriksha tree to devotees, protector of eternal righteousness (Dharma), and the sole sanctuary for all living beings, may Lord Rama of the Raghu dynasty triumph eternally!
रामो दाशरथिः शूरो लक्ष्मणानुचरो बली । काकुत्स्थः पुरुषः पूर्णः कौसल्येयो रघूत्तमः ॥ २२ ॥
Rāmo dāśarathiḥ śūro lakṣmaṇānucaro balī | Kākutsthaḥ puruṣaḥ pūrṇaḥ kausalyeyo raghūttamaḥ || 22 ||
Rama, son of Dasharatha, heroic warrior, accompanied by Lakshmana, mighty, born of Kakutstha lineage, perfect Divine Being, joy of Kausalya, and supreme among Raghus...
वेदान्तवेद्यो यज्ञेशः पुराणपुरुषोत्तमः । जानकीवल्लभः श्रीमानप्रमेयपराक्रमः ॥ २३ ॥
Vedānta-vedyo yajñeśaḥ purāṇa-puruṣottamaḥ | Jānakī-vallabhaḥ śrīmān-aprameya-parākramaḥ || 23 ||

इत्येतानि जपन्नित्यं मद्भक्तः श्रद्धयान्वितः । अश्वमेधाधिकं पुण्यं सम्प्राप्नोति न संशयः ॥ २४ ॥
Ity-etāni japan-nityaṁ mad-bhaktaḥ śraddhayānvitaḥ | Aśvamedhādhikaṁ puṇyaṁ samprāpnoti na saṁśayaḥ || 24 ||
Any devotee who daily chants these sacred names with deep faith attains spiritual merit surpassing even the Ashvamedha sacrifice, without any doubt.
रामं दूर्वादलश्यामं पद्माक्षं पीतवाससम् । स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नरः ॥ २५ ॥
Rāmaṁ dūrvā-dala-śyāmaṁ padmākṣaṁ pīta-vāsasam | Stuvanti nāmabhir-divyair-na te saṁsāriṇo naraḥ || 25 ||
Those devotees who praise Lord Rama—hued like fresh green durva grass, with lotus eyes and golden robes—with these celestial names are never trapped in the cycle of samsara.
रामं लक्ष्मणपूर्वजं रघुवरं सीतापतिं सुन्दरं काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम् । राजेन्द्रं सत्यसन्धं दशरथतनयं श्यामलं शान्तमूर्तिं वन्दे लोकाभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम् ॥ २६ ॥
Rāmaṁ lakṣmaṇa-pūrvajaṁ raghu-varaṁ sītā-patiṁ sundaraṁ Kākutsthaṁ karuṇārṇavaṁ guṇa-nidhiṁ vipra-priyaṁ dhārmikam | Rājendraṁ satya-sandhaṁ daśaratha-tanayaṁ śyāmalaṁ śānta-mūrtiṁ Vande lokābhirāmaṁ raghu-kula-tilakaṁ rāghavaṁ rāvaṇārim || 26 ||
Elder brother of Lakshmana, foremost among Raghus, consort of Sita, exquisitely handsome, ocean of compassion, treasury of virtues, righteous, king of kings, true to His word, son of Dasharatha, dark-complexioned, embodiment of peace, delight of the worlds, destroyer of Ravana—to that Raghava I bow!
रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे । रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥ २७ ॥
Rāmāya rāmabhadrāya rāmacandrāya vedhase | Raghunāthāya nāthāya sītāyāḥ pataye namaḥ || 27 ||
Salutations to Rama, to Ramabhadra, to Ramachandra, the Creator, the Lord of the Raghu race, the sovereign Protector of all worlds, and the beloved Lord of Sita!
श्रीराम राम रघुनन्दन राम राम श्रीराम राम भरताग्रज राम राम । श्रीराम राम रणकर्कश राम राम श्रीराम राम शरणं भव राम राम ॥ २८ ॥
Śrī-rāma rāma raghu-nandana rāma rāma Śrī-rāma rāma bharatāgraja rāma rāma | Śrī-rāma rāma raṇa-karkaśa rāma rāma Śrī-rāma rāma śaraṇaṁ bhava rāma rāma || 28 ||
O Sri Rama, son of Raghu race! O Sri Rama, elder brother of Bharata! O Sri Rama, invincible champion in battle! O Lord Sri Rama, become my eternal refuge!
श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ मनसा स्मरामि श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ वचसा गृणामि । श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शिरसा नमामि श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ २९ ॥
Śrī-rāmacandra-caraṇau manasā smarāmi Śrī-rāmacandra-caraṇau vacasā gṛṇāmi | Śrī-rāmacandra-caraṇau śirasā namāmi Śrī-rāmacandra-caraṇau śaraṇaṁ prapadye || 29 ||
I remember the sacred lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra in my mind; I praise them with my speech; I bow to them with my head; I take shelter under the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra!
माता रामो मत्पिता रामचन्द्रः स्वामी रामो मत्सखा रामचन्द्रः । सर्वस्वं मे रामचन्द्रो दयालु- र्नान्यं जाने नैव जाने न जाने ॥ ३० ॥
Mātā rāmo mat-pitā rāmacandraḥ Svāmī rāmo mat-sakhā rāmacandraḥ | Sarvasvaṁ me rāmacandro dayālu- -rnānyaṁ jāne naiva jāne na jāne || 30 ||
Rama is my mother, Ramachandra is my father, Rama is my master, and Ramachandra is my dearest friend. Compassionate Ramachandra is my everything; I know no other besides Him, none at all!
दक्षिणे लक्ष्मणो यस्य वामे च जनकात्मजा । पुरतो मारुतिर्यस्य तं वन्दे रघुनन्दनम् ॥ ३१ ॥
Dakṣiṇe lakṣmaṇo yasya vāme ca janakātmajā | Purato mārutir-yasya taṁ vande raghu-nandanam || 31 ||
To whose right stands Lakshmana, to whose left sits the daughter of Janaka (Sita), and in whose front kneels Hanuman—I bow down to that beloved joy of the Raghu lineage, Lord Rama.
लोकाभिरामं रणरङ्गधीरं राजीवनेत्रं रघुवंशनाथम् । कारुण्यरूपं करुणाकरं तं श्रीरामचन्द्रं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ३२ ॥
Lokābhirāmaṁ raṇa-raṅga-dhīraṁ Rājīva-netraṁ raghu-vaṁśa-nātham | Kāruṇya-rūpaṁ karuṇākaraṁ taṁ Śrī-rāmacandraṁ śaraṇaṁ prapadye || 32 ||
The joy of all beings, brave champion in the theatre of war, lotus-eyed Lord of the Raghu dynasty, embodiment of mercy and ocean of grace—in Lord Sri Ramachandra I take refuge!
मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम् । वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ३३ ॥
Manojavaṁ māruta-tulya-vegaṁ Jitendriyaṁ buddhimatāṁ variṣṭham | Vātātmajaṁ vānara-yūtha-mukhyaṁ Śrī-rāma-dūtaṁ śaraṇaṁ prapadye || 33 ||
Swift as thought, quick as the wind, master of the senses, foremost among the wise, son of the wind-god, chief of the vanara hosts, supreme messenger of Sri Rama—to Hanuman I surrender.
कूजन्तं रामरामेति मधुरं मधुराक्षरम् । आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम् ॥ ३४ ॥
Kūjantaṁ rāma-rāmeti madhuraṁ madhurākṣaram | Āruhya kavitā-śākhāṁ vande vālmīki-kokilam || 34 ||
Perched upon the high branch of poetry, sweetly warbling the honeyed syllables 'Rama, Rama'—to that cuckoo Valmiki, I pay my reverent homage.
आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् । लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥ ३५ ॥
Āpadām-apahartāraṁ dātāraṁ sarva-sampadām | Lokābhirāmaṁ śrī-rāmaṁ bhūyo bhūyo namāmy-aham || 35 ||
The redeemer from all afflictions, the bestower of all prosperity, the delight of every universe—to Lord Sri Rama, I bow repeatedly!
भर्जनं भवबीजानामर्जनं सुखसम्पदाम् । तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम् ॥ ३६ ॥
Bharjanaṁ bhava-bījānām-arjanaṁ sukha-sampadām | Tarjanaṁ yama-dūtānāṁ rāma-rāmeti garjanam || 36 ||
Consuming the seeds of earthly transmigration, manifesting true happiness, terrifying the emissaries of Yama—such is the mighty proclamation of Rama's name.
रामो राजमणिः सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नमः । रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोऽस्म्यहं रामे चित्तलयः सदा भवतु मे भो राम मामुद्धर ॥ ३७ ॥
Rāmo rāja-maṇiḥ sadā vijayate rāmaṁ rameśaṁ bhaje Rāmeṇābhihatā niśācara-camū rāmāya tasmai namaḥ | Rāmān-nāsti parāyaṇaṁ parataraṁ rāmasya dāso'smy-ahaṁ Rāme citta-layaḥ sadā bhavatu me bho rāma mām-uddhara || 37 ||
King of kings Rama reigns victorious! I worship Rama, Lord of Lakshmi. Rama who destroyed the titan hordes, to Him I bow! None is higher than Rama; I am Rama's servant. May my mind forever dissolve in Rama. O Rama, lift me across existence!
इति श्रीबुधकौशिकविरचितं श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् ॥ ॥ ॐ तत्सत् ॥
Iti śrī-budha-kauśika-viracitaṁ śrī-rāma-rakṣā-stotraṁ sampūrṇam || || Om Tat Sat ||

Whosoever recites this sacred Ram Raksha Stotra daily with unwavering faith is blessed with wisdom, fearlessness, long life, and supreme spiritual illumination. Lord Shiva Himself declared that even the denizens of the netherworld cannot touch the one who walks under the protective umbrella of Rama's holy names.
