Maha Shivratri signifies the victory over darkness, the divine convergence of Shiva and Shakti, and the auspicious night when Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance of creation and dissolution (Tandava). Devotees observe fasting, perform continuous Abhishek with Ganga Jal, Milk, Belpatra, and Dhatura, and chant the sacred Panchakshari mantra.
Wake up in Brahma Muhurat, take a holy bath with Gangajal, wear clean clothes, and take a solemn vow (Sankalp) for whole-day fasting and night vigil (Jagran).
