History

The deity was manifested by Srila Rupa Goswami in Vrindavan in 1534 CE. To safeguard the sacred murti during the iconoclastic reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II reverently brought Govind Dev Ji to his royal capital in 1715 CE and built his City Palace facing the sanctum so he could receive direct darshan.

Architecture

Seamlessly integrates Mughal and Rajput pavilion architecture within the lush Jai Niwas Garden. The magnificent open-air pillared hall allows thousands of devotees an unobstructed view of the sanctum.

Best time

October to March. Janmashtami and Holi are celebrated with exuberant traditional Rajasthani folk dances and floral phagotsav.

Timings

Seven distinct Jhakis are held daily: Mangala (approx 04:30 AM), Dhoop, Shringar, Gwal, Rajbhog (11:15 AM), Sandhya (06:30 PM), and Shayan (08:30 PM). Timings adjust slightly by season.

Darshan

The temple is exceptionally organized and clean. Devotees sit peacefully across the carpeted marble hall during aartis. Free public entry via Jalebi Chowk.
