Vasant Panchami, also called Saraswati Puja or Shri Panchami, is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Panchami of the Magha month. It heralds the formal arrival of Vasant Ritu (Spring—the king of all seasons) and honors Goddess Saraswati, the divine embodiment of supreme knowledge, fine arts, music, wisdom, and speech. Devotees and students wear yellow garments (representing the vibrant mustard blossoms and intellectual illumination), place books, pens, and musical instruments before the Mother Goddess, and initiate young children into the world of learning through the sacred Vidhyarambham ceremony.
